Pokemon Unite! April Fool's; All Pokemon Free
Updated: Aug 24, 2023
With a growth in the roster since launch in 2021, Pokemon Unite has remained relevant and has superb seasonal events. When I logged into Pokemon Unite with a friend this morning, my buddy noticed that it seemed as if he had more licenses than normal. At first, we just wrote it off since he is a new player, and the game is nice about giving out trial licenses early. After a matches, we realized that each and every Pokemon was playable. Without any knowledge or hint, Pokemon Unite made each playable Pokemon entirely FREE for April Fool's.

Having just came back to the game from the original launch in 2021, my friend and I were enamored by the ability to access all of the Pokemon. I was dying to try the Urshifu/Comfey combination, which worked incredible for me as Urshifu and my friend as Comfey. However, more than anything, I had been saving up coins to get Sableye, but I didn't have enough. The event hyped me up even more knowing that I could test out the Pokemon against other players. Even without having the proper builds or maxed out held items, I still had a blast stun-locking opponents for my team's Dragonite to wipe the opposing team.
It gave my good friend and I an idea on what Pokemon we'd like to save up for. At the same time, it is also clever marketing on Tencent's end - giving us a taste of the gamplay of what we don't have yet (making their microtransaction "Unite License" Shop tempting. However, that is the way of mobile games, and titles such as Pokemon Unite need to be promoted to make money and remain relevant. It was a fantastic way to hype up the game and a way for me to gain knowledge of other playable Pokemon. You can download Pokemon Unite for Android, iOS, and the Nintendo Switch eShop.
