Jujutsu Kaisen: The Future of Anime

Every year, new anime series are released; however, not ever series is a major success. Every year, there is at least one sleeper hit anime which takes the world by storm. That anime for the 2020 anime releases was Jujutsu Kaisen. My first encounter with the anime was last summer when I was researching what I would be watching during the fall anime season. I was excited for the final season of Attack on Titan to air and the premiere of the Noblesse anime series, but now the main one so my people are thinking and talking about, myself included, is Jujutsu Kaisen.

Containing many common anime tropes and clear influences from other series, many of which are stated directly in episodes where the creator pays respect to the series which inspired him, Jujutsu Kaisen is managing to set itself apart from it's predecessors. Today, it can be difficult and overwhelming to find an anime capable of finding an anime with both a good plot and excellent character development. The best series to compare Jujutsu Kaisen to would without a doubt be YuYu Hakasho.

Itadori is the protagonist who, much like characters such as Naruto, cares a lot for the wellbeing of his friends and family, yet the key difference is Itadori's character is nowhere near as arrogant. He is quick to listen to other jujutsu sorcerer's because he has a strong understanding that he can learn new skills for the new world he is unfortunately yanked into.

Gojo is one of the most broken characters I have seen in anime throughout my lifetime. I mean the word "broken" in a good way because his character sets the bar for the power scaling and the potential for the other characters to grow in the anime. Though he may seem carefree, he has an immense care for his students. However, his biggest character flaw is his arrogance along with his pride. He truly believes that he cannot be defeated, but it is crucial that characters such as Gojo are flawed. Gojo is much like the Kakashi of this anime because he is the sensei for three students in particular, his overwhelming capabilities and skill level, and without a doubt his hair color along with the fact he wears a mask across his eyes similar to how Kakashi always had his mouth covered, but Kakashi's character never underestimated his opponents.
