Armored Core VI: Best OS Tuning Chips for Early Game

There is a lot to understand in Armored Core, especially if you're a new player. It was one of those titles I played a time or two back on the PlayStation 2, but I never dove into it. (Now I'm wishing I did.) Much like other FromSoftware Games, most notably the Dark Souls franchise, there is a lot of useful and sometimes mandatory knowledge for proceeding in the Armored Core VI. One of the most critical to understand early on is OS Tuning. Let's talk about what OS Tuning is, how you obtain them, and which one you should use early on.
What is OS Tuning?
You can roughly think of OS Tuning like a talent tree. It has both general and specialized skills within the tree, which allows players to set perks that fit their needs in the game. It is important to note that you can use the in-game currency to reset your OS Tuning skills at your leisure, so feel free to experiment with different builds!
How to obtain OS Tuning Chips
In order to add unlock and upgrade OS Tuning skills, you'll have to play in the arena. Although the arena is completely optional, I highly recommend taking the time to complete these missions. The first set of arena missions will award two OS Tuning chips per successful mission. You cannot repeat the mission to earn more OS Tuning chips. As you proceed through the game, the arena missions unlocked through each tier will award you with more chips.
Which OS Tuning Chips Should You Focus on?
First and foremost, the most important OS Tuning ability to focus on is direct hit. The direct hit skill upgrades three times: 5%, 10%, 15%. Since you only have a maximum of three repair kits per mission, it is a good idea to upgrade how much each of those repair kits will heal you for. This is especially good for heavy Armored Core builds that have a lot of health/AP. You'll benefit from being bulky for some of the rougher bosses.
